Mehrab

Look closely at the border and you find a row of arches, the same curve that crowns a doorway or a temple gate, repeated in gold along the edge. Mehrab is the word for that arch, the niche that frames a space and pulls the eye through it. On this kurta the mehrab runs in woven gold across a rani-pink band, the temple motif the Kanchi looms of Tamil Nadu have carried for generations.
